Canadian Olympians Get Inked

Posted by admin on February 9, 2010

Three of these Curlers got Olympic Tattoos for the 2010 Games

The Winter Olympics are set to kick off in a few days, and I can feel the excitement here in Vancouver.  Unfortunately, I’m not attending any of the events, but I can imagine the anticipation the Olympians are feeling right now.  Representing your country can be a once in a lifetime opportunity, so I wasn’t surprised to learn about two curlers from Alberta who made a pact to mark this achievement with body art.  The article from CtvOlympics.ca explains that a few years ago Cheryl Bernard and teammate Cori Bartel talked about getting tattooed should they make it to the Olympics, which became a reality in December.  Even teammate Susan O’Connor joined the women in inking the colourful Olympic rings and a small Maple Leaf on the inside of their forearms.  I certainly hope these tattoos bring the ladies some luck at the games.  Gooooooo Canada!  Click here to read the entire article.

A New Year…So Long Tattoos!

Charlie Sheen Is Ringing In The New Year By Erasing His Tattoos

I’m not a big Charlie Sheen fan.  I’ve heard about his womanizing ways, and the accusations of abuse.  Not really my kinda guy.  So when I read that he had 12 tattoos it was news to me because I didn’t know much about him…except for what I just mentioned which may be true or not for all I know.  Anyhow, according to Examiner.com, Sheen is starting the new year on a mission…removing four tattoos.  These body art images include “an open zipper with an eyeball popping out, a Yankees tattoo, a Japanese samurai and angel wings.”  I don’t want to judge, but these don’t exactly strike me as the most classy of images.  What amuses me is that while he’s chosen to hide some art, he’s decided to keep his ‘Back in 15 Min’ tattoo, the pic of Charlie Brown, a Marlboro cigarette, a stingray, and a baseball.  Charlie, if you’re reading this, can you please explain why you’re erasing the Yankees ink but keeping the baseball?  Don’t bother explaining about the angel wings…I get that.  Check out the article here

Grilled Cheese Tattoo = Food Discount

Posted by admin on December 17, 2009

Mmmm grilled cheese sandwiches…but as body art?

I just read about a restaurant in Lakewood, Ohio, that is offering customers a lifetime discount of 25 per cent off, to those with a grilled cheese sandwich tattooed on their body.  The Associated Press is reporting that the Melt Bar & Grilled, which has 25 different gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches on its menu, has joined with a local tattoo shop to make it easier for their fans to get inked.  My first thought was “who would wanna do that?”  I mean, I love grilled cheese sandwiches too, but not enough to make it a permanent body art.  However, fortunately for Melt Bar & Grilled, their fans don’t think like me.  In fact, so far they’ve posted pictures of the 85 people who have already inked themselves for the discount.  That’s right, there are actually people out there willing to get inked for a 25 per cent restaurant discount.  Which leads me to my second thought…”what do they put in their food?  Check out the article here.

We Remember…Military Tattoos

Posted by admin on November 9, 2009

Armed Forces Commemorated in Ink

With Remembrance Day just around the corner, I started to get curious about military tattoos.  I found an informative article at TattooJohnny.com that explains how Navy, Army, Marines and Air Force members differ when deciding on ink.  For those in the Navy, anchors, sailor caps, and Navy related images like periscopes are prevalent.  In the Army, images of awards, medals, and those who were prisoners of war or missing in action (POW/MIA) are popular designs.  Marines tend to be all over the place getting a wide range of body art like bulldogs, camouflage, and unit designs.  Lastly, the Air Force is the least likely group to get inked, but of those who are, Pilot’s wings, eagles, planes and jets are fashionable.  To read the article and look at the dozens of cool designs, click here.  And now a minute of silence…

Halloween Tribute Tattoos

Heeeeeeere’s Johnny…forever in ink!

I absolutely LOVE horror movies, and have since I was a kid.  The chilling music and nervous anticipation of what’s going to pop up around the corner is thrilling for me.  However, no matter how much I love this time of year, I don’t think I would get a permanent image of my favourite psycho on my body.  First, because I have too many favourite psychos like Michael Myers, Freddie, and Jason so where would I put them all?  And second because what would worshiping a mental case say about me?  But thankfully some people do get body art of these classic creepy characters and the rest of us can admire them or scoff as we wish.  I prefer to show respect for those that want to die with Frankenstein on their skin.  Check out this list compiled by ChicagoNow.com of some frightening Halloween ink.

Tattoos for…Toilets?

Posted by admin on October 14, 2009

Now Your Toilet Can Look As Cool As You

Okay, I’ve written about tattoos on people, children, corpses and even animals but today I expand that list to include…toilets!  That’s right, I just found an article at Beliefnet.com that talks about this new product that dresses up your porcelain throne.  It’s a decorative plastic cover that can be wiped clean and reused.  Now, my first instinct was to roll my eyes at this new form of “body art”, but when I checked out the actual designs at Toilet-Tattoos.com I was quite impressed.  There are some gorgeous designs available!  I’m talking about trendy stripes, outdoor scenes, festive images, and even encouraging words for potty training.  I’m not saying I’ll spend the 10 bucks on one, but I can’t lie…I’m a little bit tempted.  Check out the designs here.

Tattoo Flag Man Strives For World Record

Posted by admin on October 2, 2009

This 67 Year-Old Plans To Get 220 Flags Inked On Himself

I just found a great story about this 67 year-old man from India who says he’s going to get the flag of every country in the world tattooed on himself.  That’s 220 flags and so far he has six.  This guy is so obsessed with getting into the Guinness Book of World records that he changed his first name to Guinness.  Now that’s commitment!  On the surface it sounds like a strange story but the article I found at Telegraph.co.uk explains the mission behind the madness.  Mr. Guinness says “People who have no money wish to do something in their lives, so the poor people try to break records by their strength or their will.”  And it’s this kind of desire and determination that has motivated him to already achieve four certified world bests.  Very impressive Mr. Guinness.  I think the spoiled people of the world, including myself, can learn a thing or two about passion and perseverance from you.  Check out the article here

No Tattoos For Oklahoma Cops

Oklahoma City Bans Visible Ink On Cops

I’m not surprised that some companies are unwilling to hire people with very obvious tattoos.  I’m not saying it’s right, but it’s just not that surprising.  However, when I found a story out of Oklahoma about this type of discrimination against wannabe police officers I was a little perplexed.  The news site Kfor.com tells the story of this guy Jesse Campbell being denied his dream of becoming a cop by the Oklahoma City Police Department because he has visible body art on his arms.  The department has a new policy that bans visible tattoos and forces current cops with ink to cover up.  Campbell argues that if he was allowed to fight in Iraq with them, why shouldn’t he be allowed to serve on the police force in his home country?  A good argument.  If this is about cops looking too intimidating, what’s wrong with that?  I mean, aren’t cops supposed to have a ‘tough guy’ image?  The article claims this policy started when citizens complained about visible tattoos on officers.  Unfortunately, this could backfire when society misses out on potentially great cops.  Check out the entire story here.

Gossip Girl Star Gets Weird Tattoos

Ed Westwick Shows Off Strange Feather Ink

I am a big fan of Gossip Girl and even though I’m a lot older than the kids on that show, I can’t help but get sucked into the outrageously evil stunts they pull on each other.  I’ve even caught my thirty-something boyfriend watching with intrigue…and he’s not afraid to admit that he loves the character Chuck Bass.  In real life Chuck’s name is Ed Westwick and I just found a funny article at SoSoJuicy.com about Ed’s recent body art.  For some reason, he chose to get quite a large tattoo on both his right and left biceps.  One is a large black feather…I’d love to know the significance of that one because it seems like an odd choice.  And the other one is a topless redheaded pin-up girl.  I find it funny that SoSoJuicy.com attributes the girl tattoo to Ed’s response to recent gay rumours.  Gay or not, I’m still a big fan of yours Ed…well, just not of your tattoos.  Check out the entire article here

“Ink & Stay” at a California Hotel

A Venice Beach Hotel Offers Incentive For Getting Inked

On a recent trip to Venice Beach, I discovered quite a cast of characters roaming the boardwalk.  It’s definitely an eclectic crowd including buskers, weight lifters, musicians, skateboarders, ballers, hippies, and families.  Well, I just found an article at CompareCarHire.co.uk that says a Venice Beach hotel is targeting the tattoo crowd by offering an “Ink and Stay Package”.  This means that guests of the hotel, for the remainder of this year, can receive a $100 voucher to get inked by the in-house artist.  But that’s not all…you also get an ice-pack and lotion for healing, a bottle of tequila to numb the pain, plus a $500 bonus if your tattoo says “I HEART HOTEL ERWIN”.  That’s right, the hotel’s called Hotel Erwin and it’s located right on the beach.  I think this is a great offer for body art lovers who are staying in Venice Beach anyway.  Now, if you chicken out at the tattoo parlor, all is not lost…you will still receive temporary tattoos to save-face.  Check out the entire article here.
