Oklahoma City Bans Visible Ink On Cops

I’m not surprised that some companies are unwilling to hire people with very obvious tattoos.  I’m not saying it’s right, but it’s just not that surprising.  However, when I found a story out of Oklahoma about this type of discrimination against wannabe police officers I was a little perplexed.  The news site Kfor.com tells the story of this guy Jesse Campbell being denied his dream of becoming a cop by the Oklahoma City Police Department because he has visible body art on his arms.  The department has a new policy that bans visible tattoos and forces current cops with ink to cover up.  Campbell argues that if he was allowed to fight in Iraq with them, why shouldn’t he be allowed to serve on the police force in his home country?  A good argument.  If this is about cops looking too intimidating, what’s wrong with that?  I mean, aren’t cops supposed to have a ‘tough guy’ image?  The article claims this policy started when citizens complained about visible tattoos on officers.  Unfortunately, this could backfire when society misses out on potentially great cops.  Check out the entire story here.
